Edith Bowman Gives Birth to a Boy

Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman has given birth to a baby boy, it was announced today.

Bowman, who presents the station's afternoon show, earlier this year revealed giving birth could put her life at risk due to a serious heart defect. Her child was born through a Caesarean section.

The BBC said that mother and baby -- Rudy Brae Bowman Smith, her first child with partner and Editors lead singer, Tom Smith, are both doing well.

Radio 1 controller Andy Parfitt said, "Everyone at Radio 1 sends their love and best wishes to Edith and Tom."

Edith, 33, joined Radio 1 in 2003 and initially co-presented her current show with Colin Murray.

Before working at Radio 1, Scottish Bowman co-presented MTV's Hitlist UK with Cat Deeley as well as Capital FM's Cat and Edith's Hit Music Sunday.
